Marcel Breuer

Marcel Breuer, the Hungarian-American designer whose career touched nearly every aspect of three-dimensional design, from tiny utensils to the biggest buildings. A Hungarian-born modernist, architect, and furniture designer born in Pécs, Hungary in 1902, and became one of the greatest architects and furniture designers of the 20th century. He was the first furniture designer ever to use tubular steel. Breuer designed a whole range of tubular metal furniture including chairs, tables, stools and cupboards. His design Breuer's Wassily Chair became an instant classic of modern design, and even today it remains one of the most recognizable examples of Bauhaus design. He was known for his affordable furniture for the masses that were classed as democratic. He died in his apartment in Manhattan in 1981.
